Close-Encounter Types
The following table has been used by many to distinguish between contact/sighting types. Only the first four were suggested by Dr. J Allen Hynek. The fifth, sixth, and seventh were established later and by other people:
- (CE-1) Close-Encounter of the First Kind – Sighting within 500 feet of a UFO
- (CE-2) Close-Encounter of the Second Kind – Trace evidence obtained (ie, landing marks, foreign object, skin burn)
- (CE-3) Close-Encounter of the Third Kind – ET/Humanoid sighted in vicinity
- (CE-4) Close-Encounter of the Fourth Kind – Observer brought on-board UFO
- (CE-5) Close-Encounter of the Fifth Kind – Observer initiated contact/sighting
- (CE-6) Close-Encounter of the Sixth Kind – Causes direct injury or death to witnesses (same as CE-2)
- (CE-7) Close-Encounter of the Seventh Kind – Human-ET interbreeding or hybridization
